The Gazette with Gene Lyness and family in Logan, Ind

Gene Lyness, of Mamora, found himself with The Gazette at the Higher Ground Conference and Retreat Center in Logan, Ind. surrounded by more cousins

Gene Lyness, of Mamora, found himself with The Gazette at the Higher Ground Conference and Retreat Center in Logan, Ind. surrounded by more cousins - young and old - than he could ever imagine. Gene's family first established itself in southern Indiana, on the bank of the Ohio River just west of Cincinnati, Ohio, when his great-great-grandfather, Joseph Lyness, arrived there from England in 1819. Gene's great-grandfather, Enoch Lyness, led his family west into Kansas in 1879, and that part of the family slowly dispersed from there over the next 133 years. Members returned for the weekend together from points throughout America - many of them for the first time in their lives, and many others who had never left the same neighborhood where their ancestors grew up - to get to know each other and celebrate their common ties. Nearly 100 cousins spanning four generations participated during the big weekend.
