Baking their own way: Upper Township couple opens Blue Dolfin Sweets

Pastry chef Stefan Zareba with a wedding cake he recently completed. Earlier this month, Zareba baked an 11-foot cake for the Atlantic Cape Community College gala.

Stefan Zareba, of Upper Township, has worked as a pastry chef for almost 30 years, first at the Marriott Hotel in Minneapolis and then at the Seaview Marriott Country Club in Absecon. But in December of last year he decided to start baking for himself and opened Blue Dolfin Sweets in Marmora with the help of his wife, Barbara.

SOMERS POINT – Shore Medical Center pharmacist Kathy Artymowicz of Seaville has been named Shore Medical Center’s 2011 Employee of the Year. Artymowicz was honored during a ceremony in DiOrio Hall last month.

Nurse Kathryn Henry nominated Artymowicz for the award, citing her dedication to others.

OCEAN VIEW – Former police officer Lynn Sooy of Upper Township has been a personal trainer for more than 17 years. She has a home workout center and free memberships at a number of commercial gyms where she teaches. But she comes to CrossFit 609 in Ocean View to train.

Ocean View Chiropractic in Seaville originated in a 500-square-foot home office. It is now based in a 1,600-square-foot space on Route 50. Chiropractor Dr. James O’Rourke said there is more demand than ever for the service, as contemporary lifestyles and the industrialization of the workplace take a toll on the human body.

SEAVILLE – Don’t call Ink Ur Body a tattoo parlor, says franchisor Rich Brady. The Georgia-based businessman has made it his mission to abolish that term, and the negative connotations that sometimes go along with it.

Ink Ur Body is not a tattoo parlor, Brady emphasizes, but a “tattoo salon.” The Seaville location, in the Cedar Square Shopping Center, is the first in what he said will be a regional and possibly a national franchise.

WOODBINE – This borough is looking for nearly $830,000 to fund three construction projects at the municipal airport and the airport business park complex.

Mayor William Pikolycky announced Tuesday, Oct. 11, that the Woodbine Port Authority submitted three applications to the state Department of Transportation.

SEA ISLE CITY -- Welshie's Deli of Sea Isle City has been recognized by the New Jersey Legislature for its efforts to raise funds and sponsor supply donations for deployed US troops, and organization known as Support the Troops NJ announced recently.

State Sen. Jeff Van Drew and Assemblymen Nelson Albano and Matthew Milan nominated Welshie's.

To date, Welshie’s has collected more than $1,200 to pay shipping costs for over 100 packages that have been sent to deployed troops by Support The Troops NJ.

Svec certified as CPA

MARMORA -- Natalie Svec has passed the Uniform CPA examination to become a certified public accountant, Fitzpatrick, Bongiovanni & Kelly, PC recently announced.  Svec joined that firm in 2008 and currently works on the audit team.

Robert J. Kelly, Jr., shareholder of the firm, said that this credentialing will allow for greater perspective with existing clients and new clients.
