PETERSBURG – Three baseball fields at Amanda’s Field in Petersburg are looking green thanks to the work of local volunteers.
The group, headed by Lou Deman, put sod down on three baseball outfields after fences were installed a few weeks ago. Work started the weekend before Hurricane Sandy. Two fields were completed before the storm hit.
As the scope of the work became apparent, calls went out for more volunteers. Local families, old and young, answered the call and work was completed on the third outfield this past weekend.
Approximately 35 hardworking dads, moms and young players spread four foot strips of sod.
“There is still more to do before the fields are finished but we’re getting there,” said Deman.
The township plans to install lights at the field as part of its capital improvement plan. Once the lights are on, it will be time to “play ball” at Amanda’s Field.
