BEESLEYS POINT – Joseph Giannattasio was relieved by William Holmes as commander of Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 8 during a Coast Guard Auxiliary change of watch ceremony held Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Tuckahoe Inn in Beesleys Point.
Commander Terry Johns USCG, director of the Auxiliary's Fifth Northern District, presided over the time-honored naval tradition, which formally restates the continuity and authority of command and is unique in the world today. It involves the total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another.
Michael Francis, veterans' liaison on the staff of Rep. Frank LoBiondo, presented Giannattasio with a Certificate of Special Recognition for Outstanding and Invaluable Service to the United States of America on behalf of the congressman. Francis also presented Giannattasio and Holmes with State Legislative Commendations on behalf of state Sen. Jeff VanDrew and Assemblymen Nelson Albano and Matt Milam.
Holmes’ former position was Vice Commander of Division 8.
Giannattasio will serve on the Coast Guard Auxiliary's National Staff within the Public Affairs Department.
