PETERSBURG – The Trash and Recycling Subcommittee is scheduled to make a Power Point presentation and recommendation regarding the purchase of trash trucks at Upper Township Committee’s meeting tonight, Monday, Dec. 17.

The subcommittee was formed in December to make a recommendation on the purchase of new trash trucks. Committee members Curtis Corson Jr. and Tony Inserra sit on the subcommittee along with members of the township’s public works department.

Committee has divided over how to provide trash pickup for more than a year. In the past, Corson favored purchasing trucks that use mechanical arms to pick up trash cans, which would reduce the crew on each truck from three to one. Mayor Richard Palombo has argued for larger trash trucks, which could be more efficient. Inserra has urged committee to purchase two new trucks of the type used now.

The township and public works employee union have been in contract talks since last December. The current contract requires three employees to be on each truck. The township is seeking a change so that it has flexibility to reduce the number of employees per truck.
