SEA ISLE CITY – The Fifth Annual Polar Bear 5K Run/1.5-Mile Walk for Autism sponsored by Mike’s Seafood in cooperation with Sea Isle City will take place on the Promenade starting at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17.

The event takes place during the city’s 19th Polar Bear Plunge Weekend. which includes the Polar Bear “Royal Family” competitions, a costume contest, parade and plunge.

The run/walk for autism had more than 1,600 walkers and 800 runners in 2012. It helped raise funds for autism research, awareness, advocacy and family services.

This year, even more participants are expected to come together in support of Autism charities.

Mike Monichetti, owner of Mike’s Seafood Market and organizer of the event, said he feels honored to host such a successful fund raiser.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think this event would become so big,” he said. “I am very thankful to have the chance to bring awareness to so many people, and I’m grateful to do so in the wonderful town where I grew up.”

Monichetti’s grandparents founded the seafood market more than 100 years ago.

Pre-registration by Feb. 14 is $20 for walkers and $25 for runners. The registration fee after Feb. 14 is $25 for walkers and $30 for runners.
