SEA ISLE CITY – City officials said Friday that Funland Amusement Park on JFK Blvd. near the bridge will not reopen for the summer.

Mayor Leonard Desiderio’s office said the amusement park will vacate the city-owned parcel. The park was not able to sustain itself because of lingering effects from Hurricane Sandy.

“My thanks go to the park’s owners for making a fine go of it,” Desiderio said in a statement. “After all of their efforts to ensure the park’s success, I am certain that this is a disappointment to them – just as it is to us.”

Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian opened the park in 2009.
