Turnpike Authority warns drivers of E-ZPass scam

WOODBRIDGE - The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is warning drivers of a phishing e-mail that appears to be from E-ZPass.

The e-mail is not personalized, and is addressed to “Dear customer.”

The bogus email includes this message: “You have not paid for driving on a toll road. This invoice is sent repeatedly, please service your debt in the shortest possible time.”

The scam email includes a link for an invoice.

While the email uses the E-ZPass logo and colors, the Turnpike Authority said it is not an official email.

According to a press release from the agency, legitimate toll violation notices are sent by surface mail, not email, from the E-ZPass Customer Service Center in Newark.

The web address for paying a legitimate violation to agencies in the New Jersey E-ZPass Group is www.EZPassNJ.com.

The authority has posted a notice of the scam on its website.
