1,200 runners participate in island run in Sea Isle City

Close to 1,200 runners participated in the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol’s 2014 Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run, which began in front of the Beach Patrol’s headquarters on Aug. 2. SEA ISLE CITY – Athletes from across the country participated in the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol’s 2014 Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run on Saturday, Aug. 2. The annual race, which featured nearly 1,200 runners, took place on Sea Isle’s beaches and along the Promenade.

Participants of all ages competed as individuals and as members of running clubs.

After the race, many of the event’s competitors gathered in front of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Headquarters on the 44th Street Beach, where prizes were distributed to winners in numerous age groups and categories. The event’s top runners received trophies and cash prizes. 

The overall first place winner was Sean Macpherson, 17, of Stratford. Macpherson finished the race in 54 minutes, 39.91 seconds. 

Paul Matuszak, 28, of Philadelphia, finished the race in second place with a time of 54:49.24. Joseph Kubiok, 22, of Wildwood, finished in third place with a time of 54:57.92.

In the Female Division, Emma Slattery, 23, of Sea Isle City, received the first place trophy after crossing the finish line in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 22.32 seconds. Lizzy Barrett, 22, of Jenkintown, was the second female to complete the race, followed by Stephanie Fulmer, 24, of Arlington, Va.
