Residents in coastal and inland regions of Cape May and Atlantic counties were blasted with wind gusts of 55-mph early in the afternoon of Wednesday, March 6.
Wind gusts of 55 mph reached Cape May and Atlantic City, according to the New Jersey Weather and Climate Network. Central Atlantic County was rocked with a 52-mph wind gust.
The windy weather is caused by a powerful nor’easter that is moving off the coast this afternoon before heading northeast over the ocean on Thursday.
The storm is expected to cause pockets of major flooding along the coast, generate 2-4 inches of heavy, windswept snow and down power lines across the area.
As of 1:45 p.m., Atlantic City Electric was reporting 131 outages and 11,251 customers without service.
In Cape May County, 7,000 customers were without electricity and 3,200 customers in Atlantic County were without power.
