The National Weather Service Mount Holly Forecast Center has issued a coastal flood warning for Cape May County and a coastal flood advisory for Atlantic County.

Delaware Bay flooding could cause property damage and flood many roadways, the Weather Service said.

Tidal flooding caused by persistent northeast winds caused by a stalled nor’easter has prompted the National Weather Service to up its advisory to a coastal flood warning in Cape May County through 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10.

The coastal flood warning is in effect for Cape May County beaches and areas on the Atlantic Ocean, in the back bays and on Delaware Bay, according to the National Weather Service.

At Cape May, high tide occurs at 1:14 p.m. with a forecast tide level of 7.5 feet to 8.0 feet above mean lower low water.

Wave heights on the seas will be 6-10 feet and 3-6 feet on Delaware Bay.

Many roadways will flood and minor to moderate properly damage is possible, the Weather Service says. The tides and wave action will result in moderate beach erosion.

Heavy rain will increase water levels at the time of high tide.

Most of the moderate flooding will occur along the Delaware Bay, the Weather Service said.

A coastal flood warning indicates that moderate or major tidal flooding is imminent or occurring, the Weather Service said.

“Residents should be prepared for rising water levels and take appropriate action to protect life and property,” the Weather Service said.

Atlantic County coastal flood advisory

A coastal flood advisory remains in effect for Atlantic County until 5 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Widespread minor coastal flooding will occur Thursday, Oct. 10 during the afternoon high tide. Heavy rain will intensify coastal flooding.

High surf with swells of 6-9 feet will pound the beaches and cause beach erosion.

Roadway flooding is possible during Thursday’s high tide.
