The possibility of strong winds later today in South Jersey has prompted the National Weather Service Mount Holly Forecast Center to issue a hazardous weather advisory for South Jersey and Delaware.

Very strong southerly winds just above the surface could be pulled to the ground if a line of thunderstorms forms, the National Weather Service.

Even without the thunderstorms, wind gusts of 30-40 mph are likely this afternoon, the National Weather Service said. Winds along the coast were already gusting to 33 mph early Saturday morning.

South Jersey and Delaware are at a slight risk for severe thunderstorms, the National Weather Service said.

Winds will be strongest immediately along the coast, the Weather Service said.

As of 9:30 a.m., a pair of lines of storms were attempting to form in Virginia and were headed toward the north and east.
