Tuesday’s expected rush of frigid cold air has already prompted officials in a South Jersey community to issue a Cold Blue advisory for tomorrow morning through Thursday morning.

Due to some of the coldest expected temperatures of the winter, Atlantic City is declaring a Code Blue beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27 through 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, according to a release issued by the Atlantic City Police department.

An approaching cold from is forecast to cross South Jersey during the afternoon of Monday, Jan. 27, dropping temperatures from the mid-40s into the teens later today. Combined with gusty winds, those temperatures will knock wind chill values to below zero at times.

Wind chill values could remain in the single digits for much of the next few days, the Atlantic City Police said.

For those without shelter the Atlantic City Rescue Mission will provide accommodations for the duration of Code Blue. The Atlantic City Police Department, as available, will provide transportation to the City Mission, the police said.

The Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management urges that the elderly should be checked on frequently to ensure they are warm and thus avoid the effects of hypothermia which can be deadly.

If you have pets, bring them indoors during this frigid blast. Veterinarians advise that they cannot tolerate this kind of cold and survive.

Warming stations will also be opened 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the following locations:

2231 Arctic Ave., Atlantic City

Police Athletic Building
1500 Mediterranean Avenue, Atlantic City
