The National Weather Service Mount Holly Forecast Center has issued a hazardous weather outlook for South Jersey for snow, according to a Friday afternoon statement.

One plus one equals snow

According to the National Weather Service, a low pressure system that is riding the northern jet stream will merge with a storm riding the southern jet stream into one storm over the southern Midwest over the weekend.

On Sunday, this storm will ride up a cold front as it approaches from the west.

The front, the storm and snow all come together over South Jersey where a wintery mix will change over to all snow for much of the day on Monday, March 17.

As of Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service is forecasting 4-6 inches of snow across portions of south South Jersey.

The snow is expected to fall during the morning commute, he said. However, the exacting timing of the storm and the final forecasts amounts won’t be made until the storm gets closer.

Wind gusts of 40 mph or higher are possible along the shore, he said.

The full moon appears on Sunday and could cause minor tidal flooding during the times of high tide on Monday, Szatkowski said.

GFS models show the snow will be heaviest during the morning and early afternoon hours. Snow could end by 6 p.m.
