A winter in waiting

A V-twin engine  sorry Royal Enfield fans  stands ready for the call of the open road. A rider waits to inhale a chest full of air mixed with the scent of high-octane exhaust and a salty sea breeze.

It’s Wildwood time and it doesn’t get any better.

Ninth annual Wildwood Spring Rally

The ninth annual Wildwood Spring Rally is Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27 in Wildwood in the streets and alleys around the Bolero Resort and Conference Center.

For those new to town, set your mental GPS to Atlantic and East Oak avenues. No real riders have GPS on a bike anyway, because half the fun is getting lost.

Dozens of venders have signed up to offer everything from parts to leather to accessories and more in two lots near the Bolero. They’ll be open for business 10 a.m.-6 p.m. both days.

Saturday looks to be the warmer of the two days during the 2014 Wildwood Spring Rally/NWS Saturday looks to be the warmer of the two days during the 2014 Wildwood Spring Rally/NWS Maybe he’d have penned a different title if Charles Dickens rode a motorized bike with two wheels instead of a hay-powered horse with four legs. Thanks to an Atlantic Ocean water temperature hovering around 50 degrees, your ride will change rapidly as you get closer to Wildwood.

And so will the temperature.

A cold front riding in from the northwest is expected to bring in a threat of rain Friday night and deliver seasonably chilly weather Saturday. Mainland South Jersey high temperatures could reach the low to mid-60s, according to the National Weather Service.

But the chilly Atlantic Ocean will likely keep Wildwood’s high temperature at 58 degrees Saturday, April 27, according to the National Weather Service Mount Holly Forecast Center.

You have to ask, “Do those guys ride?”

No rain is forecast on Saturday or Sunday, thankfully.

Classic Car Show

While you are in Wildwood, motor on down to Fox Park in front of the Wildwood Convention Center and check out the free street fair and classic car show 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. You’ll find more food and craft venders and live entertainment.

Did we mention classic cars?

Wildwood Sunday: A great T-shirt day

The temperature will be cold, according to the Weather Service guys. Sunday’s Wildwood high may not reach much more than 53 degrees despite the appearance of a sun that will feel as though it's much more than 93 million miles away.

You’ll be able to bundle up with extra T-shirts, extra gloves and a little of extra everything else.

You might need it.
