South Jersey workweek: Goodbye weekend chill

After spotty showers and a brisk northeast wind combined to keep temperatures in the upper 50s for much of Sunday afternoon, the mercury will climb during the week across the Middle Atlantic and New England states, according to the National Weather Service.

The system is predicted to sink to the southeast, and the resulting southwesterly wind flow should carry warmer air up into the Midwest, Great Lakes, New England and Middle AtlanticStates.

Temperatures in the lower 80s could kiss the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Erie later this week before temperatures moderate a little toward the weekend.

In South Jersey, mainland temperatures are forecast to huddle around 70 degrees before jumping up to near 80 on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Mount Holly Forecas tCenter.

Here is the South Jersey seven-day forecast in brief:

Monday: High 68, sunny with a west wind 15-17 mph. A slight chance of overnight showers with a low of 43 degrees.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with temperatures clipping 70. A clear sky will allow overnight temperatures to sink to 41 degrees.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny with a high near 69. Low: 47 with a 30 percent chance of showers.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers with a high near 68. Overnight low near 56.

Friday: Partly sunny with a high near 72. Overnight: a chance of showers. Low near 58.

Mother’s Day weekend outlook

A low-pressure system and a warm front is expected to send temperatures to the upper 70s on Saturday with a 40 percent chance of rain. After an overnight low in the mid-50s, Mother’s Day could have a 30 percent chance of rain with a high near 74.
