The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 and includes all of New Jersey’s counties except for Cape May.

The National Weather Service has indicated that the primary threat could be gusty winds, small hail and frequent lightning.

The storms were expected to form in front of a lazy cold front that is slowly moving across the Middle Atlantic States.

Storms will tend to form to the southwest and move to the northeast across the Delaware Bay and South Jersey.

The coastal areas are expected to be the hardest hit, but thunderstorms may form almost anywhere in front of the front.

As of 4:15 p.m., a line of thunderstorms to the west of Washington, D.C. were headed in a direction that would have them crossing South Jersey during the early evening hours.

The front is expected to fully cross the area in time to deliver mostly pleasant conditions on Friday and Saturday with a chance of late-day rain on Sunday.
