Flash flood warning issued for portions of Atlantic and Cape May counties

The National Weather Service in Mt. Holly has issued a flash flood warning for southeastern Atlantic County including Ventnor, Atlantic City, northern Cape May County and Ocean City until 1:15 p.m. today (Thursday, July 10).

At 9:23 a.m. the National Weather Service reported that radar was showing very heavy rain from a thunderstorm over the warned area. Radar estimates indicate 3 to 4 inches of rain have fallen and rainfall amounts in excess of 3 inches were reported at a rain gauge in Beesleys Point.

Locations in the warning area include but are not limited to Ocean City, Longport, Ventnor, Somers Point, Northfield and Margate City.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 inch are possible in the warned area, according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warning area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate Precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.
