The annual restaurant showcase at the Bolero Resort in downtown Wildwood last week was sponsored by The Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce Foundation, which means that the money goes to scholarships for college students who graduate from Cape May County high schools.

Bolero owners Wally and Kathy Lerro hosted the event, which saw the same number of participating restaurants, but fewer tickets sold.

The Christmas Holidays are by far the busiest time of the year and exhausting for all who participate in so many activities. The Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce held its annual appreciation dinner at their offices on Pacific on Thursday Dec. 15. The event is free to all paid up members and it is an international feast. This year the member restaurants that participated were “The Dogtooth Bar and Grill” which supplied the Mexican portion of the dinner, “Dragon House Restaurant, which supplied the Chinese food and “Courthouse Pizza” which took care of the Italian.

The month of January is a time of renewal and promises made, especially the one that involves getting fit and staying healthy.  I spent last week going to all the gyms in the Wildwoods to see what they offer.

I started at the Bolero gym and spa on the 7th floor of the Bolero hotel, which contains a complete circuit training stations, as well as an indoor sun deck, hot tub, indoor pool, sauna, steam room and masseuse. The pool is well used, especially in the summer when guests of the hotel are welcome to swim there. In the winter it is also used, but more so on Wednesday nights when an invigorating game of volleyball is played.

Thousands of people went through the doors of the Wildwoods Convention Center on Dec. 2 and 3, and no one left disappointed. There were things to do both days.

Friday night was the annual Jaycees Christmas Parade that went from North Wildwood to the Crest. There were floats and fire trucks galore. North Wildwood has Miss North Wildwood Grace Lederer in a car and she later posed with her mother Catherine.

After the parade was finished the tree lighting ceremony was held and parade awards were given out. The GWITDA organization has a Disney-styled float with and Beverly Trapp and Fran Feketics, who later posed with former commissioner Al Brannen in front of the Christmas trees inside the hall.
