On Friday night, Nov. 4, the North Wildwood Republican Club hosted a dinner honoring North Wildwood Councilman Bob McCullion on his impending retirement in December. The dinner was held at the Anglesea Fire house where Bob has been a member for more than 50 years. McCullion served on Council for 24 years.
McCullion and his wife, Diane, were lauded by more than 150 admirers, including present Freeholders Sue Sheppard and Jerry Thornton, Sheriff Gary Schaffer, Mayor Suzanne Walters, and North Wildwood’s favorite son, former Senator Jimmy Cafiero and his wife Pat. Also there were Mayor Bill Henfey and his wife Diane, former Mayor Aldo Palombo, and his wife Sylvia, and Mayor Ernie Troiano and his wife Donna. McCullion’s son Bob was there and so were his two granddaughters Sarah and Kelsey Montgomery.
Ann Vinci, wife of former North Wildwood Mayor Lewis Vinci, was there as was Betty Crossen, a member of Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority. Barbara and Blaine Robinson came and so did Mary Carlson and Floss Stingel.
The Harkins were there John and Denise, and Bob and Janet, and also Dr. John Costino and wife Barbara. All members of council were there: Pat Rosenello, Ed Koehler, Rick Ogden, Kellyann Tolomeo, and the heir apparent David DelConte, who takes McCullion’s seat.
Later that evening we attended the Cape May County Special Services Education Foundation 14th annual auction dinner at the Wildwoods Convention Center. This is always a fun night and the silent auction was changed somewhat this year, as the school had a private company come in and we were able to bid on many pieces of sports memorabilia . However, there were still many things bid on in the live auction.
John Lynch was the auctioneer and some items that were put up to bid were passes to Morey’s Pier, a party at Urie’s for 13 people, a dine around and play plan, Flyers tickets, a trip to the Outer Banks, Lucky Bones restaurant for 10 people, and tickets to the Phillies.
Kreni DiAntonio and Lenore Kodytek were there. Both have been on the school district board, and active for many years. Lenore was with her daughter Cindy, who went to the school. Matt Iannone, the president of the foundation from Sea Isle City, brought five tables of family and friends. Wildwood Catholic High School had students there to help spot the bidders for the live auction. They included Joseph Jett, Katlin Nanos, Tom DePaul, Megan Metzler, and Hayden Garrabrandt.
At the gala we saw Chris Henderson and Marie Britton there with their beaus, proud new grandparents Glen and Karen Ortman, Sue and Brian White, Rose and Natalie Kuprianov, Annette Scully, Skip and Joanne Kay, Tom and Angel Byrne, Pam and Dean Gentak, and our hostess for the night Cindy Bada and her husband Frank. Jack and Karen Hallett and Mike and Eileen Palombo, to name just a few.
On Nov. 5, the Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce held its first Casino Night at the Bolero. Though not as many as anticipated, the 100 or so had a fun night. A company was brought in and there was craps table, roulette and several blackjack tables.
Darlene Heym and friends were having fun plating craps, while her buddy Sally Smith was playing roulette with Betty Collins, Sue Kelly, Joe DuFault, and Nadine Guzman. Tracey du Fault, the executive director of the chamber, made sure that all was working well and was busy with the guests, which included Carmen and Joe Murray, Shelia Brown, her mom Sandy Rudnick, Krissy Gelzunas, Angel Daniels, John and Kate Walker, Nick and Jennifer Konides and Jodie St John. Artie Sparks was with his girl Toni Messina.
At the end of the casino sessions all chips were turned in for tickets which in turn, changed to prizes for all the participants which included alcohol, gift certificates and all types of prizes. Once again, Wally, Kathy and Michael Lerro were on hand for the great food and a lot of fun.
