The annual restaurant showcase at the Bolero Resort in downtown Wildwood last week was sponsored by The Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce Foundation, which means that the money goes to scholarships for college students who graduate from Cape May County high schools.

Bolero owners Wally and Kathy Lerro hosted the event, which saw the same number of participating restaurants, but fewer tickets sold.

Lighthouse Pointe had fabulous tilapia with an array of vegetables, while Formica Brothers with the help of Michele Giampaolo had a display of their own baked bread and rolls. Helping Michele with the bread were Janet and Jerry D’Antonio. Jerry delivers their breads in the Wildwood area.

The Dogtooth Bar and Grill had Kim Becica and David Olivera serving up some food, which included an avocado egg roll. The women from Groff’s on the boardwalk, Stacy and Kate Perugini, were there and so was Frank Vogel, from the original Fudge Kitchen, giving out fudge samples.

Goodfish Grill, Juan Pablo’s Margarita’s Bar, and Cattle and Clover, all with the same owner, were represented. Oliver Twist and Vince Egan represented the staff, with Mayor Suzanne Walters, from Stone Harbor, and Susie McTighe from the Coast radio station enjoying the food.

North End American Grill was represented by Justin Barnabei and Maggie Weicek was there for Marie Nichole. Both of the restaurants are owned by the Barnabei family, and served pulled pork and a pasta dish. Gia was represented by Mia Chiarella and Kenny Legander with an antipasto. Lighthouse Pointe owner Holly Spuhler was with her best friend Sandy Dunn.

The Deck at Holly beach had prime rib for sandwiches, cheesesteak egg roll and corn fritter nuggets, which were served by Casi Quinn, Dale MacMagh, and Carlos Lopez. The men from Pacific Grill were there, including Jay Schatz, Ian Miller, and Bob Dimitrov who served bay scallops and crab ceviche with roasted garlic and sweet corn salsa.

The Dougherty family, which owns Stewart’s Root Beer on the boardwalk was there, including EJ, Traci, Kelly, and Sean.

The reason for the restaurant showcase is to raise money for college scholarships. The recipients for this year were Kyle Davis, Brieann Gorski, Frank DiFalco and Patrick Kennedy, from Wildwood High School, and Katherine Jett, Arianna Alosi, and Thomas Malinowski from Wildwood Catholic High School, and Michael McGowen from Cape May Technical High School. There were also renewal scholarships for Nichloas Long, Kyle Raucci, Cassidy Stoughton, Ashley Russo, Marissa Ferante, Nicholas Holland, and Lindsey Tillotson.

There were more than 30 baskets that were put in a silent auction. A bid for $800 for a week in St Maarten won by two lucky couples allowed each couple a week away. The trip was donated by chamber president Jim Rowland.
