High hopes for Wildwood businesses this summer

WILDWOOD—After 2013’s slow tourism season, Wildwood businesses heard good things last week about what may happen this summer.

During a Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Jay Ford of Crest Savings Bank predicted that visitors will most likely be back for 2014, and be spending more.

NORTH WILDWOOD—Some lots in North Wildwood’s central business district, like the one at Fourth and New Jersey avenues, have sat empty for years.

Now, city officials hope to draw new development there.

WILDWOOD—With a beach that stretches about 1,700 feet to the ocean, making the trek to Wildwood’s boardwalk for lunch can be an inconvenience for beachgoers, especially those sunbathing near the southern end of the city. 

This week, city officials have designated two areas for vendors to offer food on Wildwood’s beach, a move they say will benefit visitors and add to city coffers.

WILDWOOD—Dominos pizza is now baking pies at their new location on Rio Grande and New Jersey avenues, which city officials say is the largest Dominos in the country.

At 2,800 square feet, the restaurant can produce 450 pizzas an hour and offers seating for 57 people as well as offering carryout service as well as delivery, the city said.

Wildwood to try again on beach bars

WILDWOOD—The city is hoping that the third time might be the charm to bring some adult beverages to Wildwood’s expansive beach.

During the Board of Commissioner’s meeting Dec. 31, the governing body voted to again advertise for proposals to operate a bar on the beach.

WILDWOOD – Two local businessmen were honored for their contribution to improving the city during the Nov. 27 meeting of the Board of Commissioners.

“They’ve done quite a bit not only to improve their neighborhood, but to also improve the town,” said Mayor Ernie Troiano, Jr. during the presentation of a certificate to William Helm, owner, and Michael Young, manager, of the Ship N’ Shore Bar.

 WILDWOOD CREST—Cabrera Realty, the local real estate agency owned by Crest Commissioner Don Cabrera, was recently acquired by a large national real estate company.

In an announcement from Long and Foster Real Estate, the company acquired Cabrera Realty Nov. 19.

Produce trucks have become a local tradition 

WILDWOOD—Sure, the boardwalk is known for its curly fries and pizza, but just beyond the Wildwoods’ beaches is another culinary tradition.

The pink, teal, and yellow fresh fruit trucks from Island Produce have been bringing fruits and vegetables to beach street-ends and hotels since 1990. Signaling their arrival with a “farm style” triangle, the trucks are uniquely “Wildwood” according to David Mayer, who manages the business.

“People are surprised when they see it for the first time,” Mayer said.

New attraction at Splash Zone

WILDWOOD- Splash Zone Water Park plans to open a $1.9 million Flow House to the park this summer, the largest single attraction expenditure in the park’s history.

The Flow House will be one of only five Flow House venues in the world, according to the organization. A second is located at Thundering Surf Water Park in Beach Haven. The attraction is scheduled to be open Memorial Day weekend.
