WILDWOOD – Mayor Ernie Troiano reacted angrily to criticism of behavior connected to electronic dance music (EDM) concerts, saying business people should hold themselves to the same standard.

Troiano was speaking at the Jan. 28 commissioner meeting, where representatives from BeachGlow Concerts for Charity, Inc., defended the concerts, which had been the subject of criticism for on-stage profanity, underage drinking, and arrests allegedly stemming from the concert.
“I’ve talked to more people than you can shake a stick at, I’ve been lectured to, and that I don’t like,” Troiano said. “The hypocrisy is to crucify this event, yet we have five or six weeks of hell for senior week. We made 40 arrests at one house. People say ‘family, family, family,’ and they let five or six weeks of absolute terror reign in this community because it’s about the money.”
Troiano was referring to the annual trip to the shore by recent high school seniors in the weeks following graduation. He said business people will rent to young people knowing there will be problems. Asked the next day what problems were associated with senior week, Troiano said, “Excessive underage drinking, drugs, fighting, stabbing…stupid stuff.”
