NORTH WILDWOOD— North Wildwood Police are looking for seasonal employees for this summer, Chief Robert Matteucci has announced.

“These positions not only offer satisfying work in themselves, but can also be a steppingstone to a lifelong career in Law Enforcement,” reads a statement from the department. “For those who are attending college (though this is not a requirement) up to 12 credits towards a college degree can be earned by working as a seasonal employee on the force.”

The department has two openings for special law enforcement officer class I (SLEO I); 22 openings for special law enforcement officer class II (SLEO II); and four seasonal dispatchers.

Those hired will be trained and will serve in a paid position 20 weeks.

Applicants must be at least 18 and have a valid driver’s license. Phase 1 of the process is application review. Those whose applications are selected will be interviewed.

In Phase 2, candidates must pass a background check, as well as physical and psychological tests.

Those who are hired will take an eight week course at the Cape May County Police Academy at Crest Haven in Middle Township. Upon graduating from the Academy, the SLEO I’s will take on mainly parking and traffic duties. SLEO II’s will take on full police responsibilities.

“The Police Department welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds. They are looking for men and women who are mature, responsible, and motivated,” reads the release.
