WILDWOOD CREST -- Wildwood Crest Police Sgt. Jon A. Weigand was honored at North Wildwood VFW Post 5941 monthly meeting held at North Wildwood Knight's of Columbus Hall on Feb. 9.
The awards included "Wildwood Crest Achievement Award" presented by Wildwood Crest Committeewoman Joyce Gould, North Wildwood VFW Post 5941 "Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award" presented by VFW Post 5941 Commander Joe Orlando, Cape May County District 17 "Law Enforcement Officer of the Year" presented by District 17 and VFW Villas Post 5343 Commander Bill Howard.
Weigand placed third in New Jersey in the "Law Enforcement" competition where he was judged against the other 20 county recipient winners in New Jersey. Besides his many extra police duties he is also a Naval Reserve Petty Officer First Class and returned in May 2011 from deployment in Afghanistan.
Weigand was nominated by past VFW Post 5941 Commander Richard Grzeskiewicz.
