Malia will take over as zoning officer

WILDWOOD CREST — In another step toward sharing services on a 5-mile-island with four municipalities, the borough named a shared construction official as zoning officer.

Patrick Malia will start work as Wildwood Crest’s zoning officer in January. He already works at the municipal construction official through a shared services agreement with North Wildwood.

According to borough officials, Malia is taking on the additional duties of zoning officer as part of the borough’s continuing efforts to streamline services and reduce staff.

“This internal change will also create a more efficient operation for both property owners and developers by creating one-stop-shopping,” according to Mayor Carl Groon.

Groon said the combined office will handle both the construction and land use business on a regular basis, which will help to avoid one office not knowing the related reconstruction, rehabilitation, or renovation issues handled by the other.

Malia is replacing Paul DiFilippo as zoning officer. DiFilippo is retiring at the end of the year.
