Police: Heroin found after juvenile shot himself

WILDWOOD- Police arrested three people Wednesday after a juvenile accidentally shot himself in the left hand and leg at the Blue Heron Motel.

Renaldo Lugo, 21, Elizabeth Dever, 19, and the juvenile were arrested after police allegedly discovered 30 bags of heroin at the motel. All three are Wildwood residents.

Police said that around 1 a.m. they responded to the Blue Heron on Roberts Avenue. There, they discovered that the juvenile had been wounded in his left hand and left leg from a single gun shot. He was transported to Atlantic City Medical Center and was treated for his injuries, police said.

Lugo was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, conspiracy to possess a weapon, both second degree crimes, and tampering with evidence, a fourth degree crime.

The juvenile was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, and distribution of heroin within a school zone, all third degree crimes. He was also charged with possession of a weapon while in possession of heroin, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, which are second degree crimes.

Dever was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to deliver, and possession of heroin within a school zone, all third degree crimes. She was also charged with possession of a weapon while in possession of heroin and conspiracy to possess a weapon, both second degree crimes.

Lugo and Dever were lodged in Cape May County jail on $100,000 cash bail. The juvenile was sent to a juvenile detention center, police said.

County Prosecutor Robert Taylor said that individuals convicted of a second degree crime could see five to 10 years in state prison. For a third degree crime, an individual could see three to five years in prison, and a sentence for a fourth degree crime can not exceed 18 months, Taylor said.
