WILDWOOD—A 21-year-old Wildwood man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly punching a Lower Township police officer in the face, police said.

Special Officer James Collins was called to the 300 block of Destoto Avenue in the Villas section of Lower Township in response to a call about a disorderly subject. When Collins arrived, Alexander Vosper of Susquehanna Avenue in Wildwood, was having a verbal altercation with an unidentified man at the scene, police said.

During the investigation, Vosper turned his aggression on the officer and “struck him in the face with a closed fist,” according to police. He was immediately taken into custody.

Vosper was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and a drug possession charge, but police did not specify what drug he was carrying.

He was sent to Cape May County jail on $25,000 cash bail.
