Reported shotgun incident leads to heroin bust in Wildwood

WILDWOOD — An alleged domestic violence incident involving a shotgun led police to 322 bags of heroin seized, Wildwood police said.

At 2:21 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 police responded to reports that a man had been confronted by his ex-girlfriend, Shakeila Fitzpatrick, who was allegedly armed with a shotgun. Upon arrival though, Fitzpatrick had left the area.

Atlantic Cape making computer labs available to displaced casino workers, by appointment

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – Atlantic Cape Community College invites workers displaced by casino shutdowns to take advantage of its computer labs and additional resources while searching for new employment.

The college is making computers available at its campuses, by appointment, beginning Monday, Sept. 15. Displaced workers must present a casino ID and bring a USB drive to save their work, or purchase a low-cost print card at campus libraries. Lists of career exploration and resume-building websites will be provided.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - A 22 year-old Egg Harbor Township motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in a crash along Fire Road in the Bargaintown section of the township today, Thursday, Aug. 14.

Justin Levenson was driving a 1990 Yamaha motorcycle at a high rate of speed as he and and another cyclist exited the Garden State Parkway and traveled south on Fire Road around 3:43 p.m. near the Bonton Plaza, police said.

Cubs to call up Matt Szczur

MATT SZCZUR Matt Szczur is expected to be in a Chicago Cubs uniform at Citi Field tomorrow.

The 2007 Lower Cape May Regional graduate will be called up from Triple A Iowa to join the Chicago Cubs in time for Sunday afternoon’s game at the New York Mets, according to multiple reports on Twitter.

Szczur, 25, an outfielder, was hitting .261 with 30 stolen bases, 52 runs scored and an OPS of .626 at Triple A Iowa through Friday. He was not in the lineup for Iowa’s home game on Saturday against Salt Lake.

Szczur’s promotion to the Cubs will become official when the team sends pitcher Dan Straily back to the minors after this evening’s start, according to CSN Chicago.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Drones will soon be tested in New Jersey’s airspace as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s unmanned aerial systems test site program, U.S. Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo, chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, announced on Monday, Aug. 11.

 Earlier in the day, the FAA announced that the joint New Jersey-Virginia-Maryland test site for integrating commercial unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace has become operational.
