Absecon police investigating shooting

ABSECON – The Absecon Police department is investigating a Tuesday night shooting at the Absecon Village Complex, Sgt. Robert Ponzetti said in a release.

No one was injured, but police found evidence of a shooting after residents made several 9-1-1 calls reporting a shooting on Marin Drive, the development’s lone roadway,  Ponzetti said.

Driving on a rim results in low-speed chase and charges for Rio Grande man

RIO GRANDE – Police have charged a local man with driving while intoxicated after they say they saw him driving without a front tire north on Route 47.

Stephen Schweizer, 40, led police on a low-speed chase and then assaulted Patrolman Jeffery Salvesen after he was stopped at about 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, police said.

Public safety officials making plans for Tuckahoe River bridge closure

TUCKAHOE – Public safety officials in Upper Township met last week with the contractor for the Route 50 Tuckahoe River bridge replacement to discuss contingency plans in case the bridge is closed.

South State, Inc. is considering closing the bridge for up to nine months as part of a project to build a new span across the river. The current bridge is in such bad shape that a plan to temporarily widen it and keep one lane of alternating traffic open during construction has been scrapped because it would not be able to handle the stress, according to officials.
