GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – Jacob Balnis is on an unlikely goal-scoring streak for the Lower Cape May Regional High School junior varsity boys soccer team.
Balnis, a junior special needs student, scored his third goal in three games for the Caper Tigers in a loss to Absegami on Monday, Sept. 18. After scoring the goal, he leaped into the arms of coach Dan Keen in a celebratory moment captured by freelance photographer Wendie Doyle.
"I always let the (opposing) coaches know. I don't ever ask them to do it," Keen said of Balnis' scoring opportunity in a lopsided game.
Asked how it felt to score the goal, Balnis answered: "It felt pretty good."
After the coach and player posed for a picture, Keen said to Jacob: "There you go, buddy, you're going to be famous!"
Jacob's grin was nearly as wide as the goal mouth.
