LINWOOD – The Atlantic City and Mainland Regional high school football teams continued preparations for a new season with a scrimmage on Tuesday, Aug. 22 in Linwood.

Atlantic City is coming off a 4-6 season which ended with a near-upset of top seed Toms River North in a South Jersey Group V first-round game. The Vikings have a talented pass-catch combo in senior quarterback Nazir Derry and senior wide receiver Nahsir Morgan, who had five touchdown receptions last season.

Mainland finished a tough season on a positive note, beating rival Egg Harbor Township on Thanksgiving eve for its only win in Chuck Smith's first season as head coach. The Mustangs have a top lineman in senior Zach Donovan, as well as talented running backs Tyquan Campbell and Kobe Roberts and junior quarterback Dean Hall, who will run the triple option offense this season.

Both teams have difficult regular-season openers. Atlantic City opens at home against St. Augustine Prep on Friday, Sept. 8, while Mainland opens at St. Joseph in Hammonton on Saturday, Sept. 9.
