UT Farmers Market

The Upper Township Farmers Market was started in 2015 featuring produce from local farms and homemade and handcrafted items for sale by vendors.

PETERSBURG – The Upper Township Green Team will hold an informational workshop 6 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at the Upper Cape Branch Library meeting room. The workshop session will also include a special meeting of the Upper Township Farmers Market (UTFM) Steering Committee.

Farmers market committee chair Becky Holden said the meeting with include discussion on finding a new market manager for the 2017 season. The steering committee is also in the process of determining a new location for this year’s market, according to a press release.

The farmers market was started in 2015 and held Fridays in the field north of the Cedar Square Shopping Center in Seaville. Last year, the steering committee moved the market later in the day so locals could make it after work.

The market has proven successful, with local farms offering produce and vendors with homemade and handcrafted products for sale. Bands performed at the market last year and there were games and demonstrations for kids.

Other initiatives related to the 2017 recertification of Upper Township with the Sustainable Jersey program will be covered at the workshop if there is time.

The Green Team will have an information table set up Saturday, April 1 and Saturday, April 8 at the Seaville ACME in conjunction with the Upper Township Business Association (UTBA). Free reusable shopping bags will be distributed and signups will be collected for a rain barrel workshop in May.

The Green Team will be distributing free tree saplings at the Spring Fling Festival scheduled for April 8 at Amanda's Field. It will also have a table at the business association’s fourth annual paper shredding event scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29 in the parking lot of Foglio’s Flooring, 344 Route 9 in Marmora.

The next Green Team workshop is scheduled for Thursday, April 27. The sessions are held in the evenings and have information about volunteering in local sustainable activities.
