UPPER TOWNSHIP — Six students whose families are members of Wesley United Methodist Church in Petersburg have been awarded scholarships through the Anna Gandy Scholarship Fund.

Each recipient received a $1,000 scholarship grant: Felicia Betts, Arianna Charlesworth, Jacob Eisele, Hannah Somervell and Robin Simpson.

Graduates were also acknowledged during the worship service that day, with each receiving a Bible. Rialee Allen, Heather Schweibinz and Taylor Mason all graduated this year from Ocean City High School. Caylinn Chance and Ashlyn Sudol graduated from Upper Township Middle School, and Courtney Allen graduated from William Paterson University.

Pastor Bob Castello led the worship service with Cheryl Eisele officiating the scholarship presentations.

In addition, recognition was awarded to Mia Palmer for her participation in the NJ State Special Olympics held June 6-10 at The College of New Jersey.

Palmer defended her gold medal in the tennis ball throw, reaching 84 feet this year. She also won a gold medal in the 4x100 meter relay and a bronze in the 100 meter dash. Mia is a member of the Challenger Sports Team, whose head coach is Daryll DeTroia. She will be entering eighth grade at Upper Township Middle School.
