NORTH WILDWOOD – Official accredited status was granted to the North Wildwood Police Department after a hearing of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Accreditation Commission in South Brunswick on Thursday, March 9.

The department was represented at the hearing by Chief Matthew Gallagher and accreditation manager Capt. Kevin Tolan. Gallagher recognized the efforts of the men and women of the North Wildwood Police Department for helping it attain accreditation status.

Accreditation helps law enforcement agencies calculate and improve their overall performance, according to a press release. An accredited police department adopts standards with a clear statement of professional objectives, and participating agencies conduct a thorough self-analysis to determine how existing operations can be adapted to meet the standards and objectives. When the procedures are in place, a team of trained, independent assessors verifies that the standards have been successfully implemented.

Accredited status represents a significant professional achievement and acknowledges the implementation of policies and procedures that are conceptually sound and operationally effective, according to the release.

A representative from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Accreditation Program will present the North Wildwood Police Department with the State Accreditation Certificate at a future council meeting.
